Abhishek made us wear black jackets

2012 Bollywood begins with a heist and talking about Players, don't mark down Abbas-Mustan not being one. They are big time Players when it comes to chasing box office successes. Trace their last decade and you'll know how successful they have been in their heist at the box office. The typical setting of a thriller movie is an urban city with colours used from black to grey to white to emphasise the helplessness of characters. Welcome Abbas-Mustan, the colourful duo who'll always be spotted in crisp white from top to toe. Their thriller movies are filled with rainbow colours and their characters emphasise strength. And even though they're masters in twisting the thriller genre in the most unexpected manner, you'll see Abbas-Mustan sitting quietly on their director's chair in front of the monitor, call their shots, pack up, go to the edit table and present you with Bollywood's best thriller movies you'll ever see on the wide 'white' screen, and Players is heading towards being yet another masterstroke by master craftsmen Abbas-Mustan. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent ends the year 2011 with quite a 'thrill' and one of them is seeing Abbas-Mustan wearing 'black'. Shocked? Read on and find out! "We were in Moscow when we got a call from Bipasha and she was jovial and so excited to be a part of Players" We had to go to Russia for some urgent work regarding Players and by that time we had already approached Bipasha to play a part in our movie. We told her to listen to the script in a narration we had kept for her rather than her reading the script. Thrillers are better heard than read we thought. We were in Moscow when we got a call from Bipasha and she was jovial and so excited to be a part of Players. The day we landed, that same evening she came over to our office and the rest is history. "Bipasha looks hot in her bikini and she did not object one bit to wear it" Bipasha worked out for three months before her shoot in New Zealand as she wanted to look at her 'fit' best. We gave her the New Zealand schedule dates and she hit the gym with full force. Bipasha looks hot in her bikini and she did not object one bit to wear it as the scene demanded it. She was very open to suggestions and she too gave her valuable inputs. When she walked out of the waters, the crowd went in frenzy. She was looking hot. "Every film we make is bigger than our previous movie" It's just not the cast who are termed as Players. We too are Players as directors. Our editor and brother Hussain too is a Player. Same with our DOP Ravi Yadav, and though we not necessarily run behind gold (laughs), we do run behind the making of a blockbuster movie. Players is one project we feel we've put a lot into. Every film we make is bigger than our previous movie and we'll make sure that it's as good an investment as gold. "Bobby plays a magician in the movie who creates illusions" Bobby Deol is the surprise package in the movie. He plays a magician in the movie who creates illusions. It will take the audiences by surprise. He has been a dear friend and he's the only actor who has worked with us in most of our movies. He's a sweet chap and his acting abilities are really underrated. We've got the best out of him. "Abhishek made us wear black jackets after a lot of persistence" The great thing about Abhishek Bachchan is that he will listen to you carefully throughout the entire narration. But on the sets, he is a complete director's actor. He will only do what the director tells him. He told us, "I want to go with your conviction and your vision. Please tell me what to do and I will do just that". And of course as we all know, he is a complete prankster. He did make us wear black jackets (laughs). "We met AB's and Aishwarya's cute little daughter. Only time will tell whether she turns out to be a prankster like her dad" We met Abhishek and Aishwarya's kid. She is so cute and adorable. She did give us the look just like Abhishek Bachchan does (laughs). Only time will tell whether she turns out to be a prankster like AB (laughs). 2011 has been quite a vibrant year what with films like Haunted, Shaitan, Ra.One and the varied genres releasing to either a good or unfortunately a bad place at the box-office. With all the 107 films released this year, remaining unique from another, one aspect that forms the common thread in the creative process is the post-production, playing a crucial part in making those films complete. Whether it is 3D stereoscopic filmmaking with ghouls coming towards you in Haunted or pulling off a heist in Berlin in Don 2, the industry is turning the spotlight to innovative filmmaking techniques and post-production process to unleash its inconceivable power. It may perhaps be its visual effects that can make a train destroy the iconic CST station in Ra.One or make Ranbir croon to a larger audience in Rockstar; Indian filmmakers are achieving bigger post-production feats every passing year with their films. Bollywood Hungama explores 2011 a visually effective year in story telling, collaborative efforts and what's in store for the future of digital filmmaking. One of the biggest accomplishments in Indian filmmaking and post-production this year was that, we saw the first 3D stereoscopic film coming to fore with Haunted, a horror film directed by the maverick Vikram Bhatt. The unconventional director shared a common fact that now 3D stereoscopy has become quite a stable platform to make films with since it is not an experimental platform anymore. The director also emphasizes on the fact that 3D theatres are rampant everywhere in the country streaming a lot of 3D content every week. With Haunted being the first stereoscopic film in the country, this trend of stereoscopic filmmaking will prominently gain momentum soon. With the more recent Ra.One, being lauded for its VFX for being almost in par with some of the work churned out from Hollywood's post-production stables, Indian productions are adopting the collaborative post-production effort to beckon better quality VFX and other post-production efforts. Merzin Tavaria, VFX supervisor of Ra.One from Prime Focus, shone light on the 3D conversion process which was conducted simultaneously along with the VFX process saying that with about 4400 shots, it was difficult to manage the conversion process, we broke down each shot and designed on what parts of the frame needs to be pulled up or pushed back. To achieve the VFX in the film, Red Chillies VFX studios and Eyeqube Studios collaborated along with Prime Focus and its global arm in delivering quality post-production work, in a span of six months altogether. One of the largest post-production houses in India, Pixion Studios, contributes VFX for most of the big banner Bollywood films like, Singham, Force, Shaitan to name a few. With Indian cinema leaving a hint of more stereoscopic conversion productions such as Ra.One, Viral Thakkar, CG VFX head of Pixion Studios Mumbai, downplayed the thought of Pixion Studios having a stereoscopic conversion setup in the country at the moment, due to an abundance of projects in its way. Pixion has not had the opportunity to look towards the stereoscopic fragment although the plan ultimately will include a state of the art setup available. With us inching closer to 2012, according to Viral, Indian cinema is going to expect a surge with VFX swinging upwards. He says, "I think most of the films are going to be in 3D, we have just delivered the VFX for Don 2; the film has been converted into 3D at Reliance Mediaworks. The quality plays a very big role if you are converting the films and if the quality is not right then the audience might experience these so called 'headaches'. I think for 2012, Bollywood is definitely going the 3D way at least where the big VFX and Bollywood films are concerned." "The doors have already been opened with Ra.One and Don 2. I think we should see a jump in stereoscopic 3D productions for sure, with a lot of new theatres being equipped and the market witnessing the difference on the revenue that a 3D film can generate, I think there's a big upward trend in here for sure. Although Rockstar does not have very loud VFX in it, it's all invisible and very narrative. I give a, thumbs up to directors who are making this upward trend happen," says an optimistic Merzin on the scale of projects and quality work to hit the Indian post-production scene. "Krrish 3 is going to go on floors in 2012, so there's big movement towards that production and Agent Vinod is going to make a mark as well." Merzin concludes with some of the projects in sight for Prime Focus.

What happened at Salmans birthday bash

Sangeeta Bijlani was a very prominent part of Salman's guest-list at his birthday binge. Says a guest from Salman's celebration, "Sangeeta was very much a comfortable part of Salman's family. She mingled freely with the guests and was an integral part of the Khan family. Salman has reached that comfort zone with Sangeeta where she can blend with the family without being attached to Salman." Interestingly, the guest-list at this year's birthday party included very few female guests, corroborating the growing belief that Salman is now looking at a serious permanent relationship. Says the guest, "Besides Sangeeta Bijlani who was there as part of Salman's family, the only recognizable female guests were Kangna Ranaut, Shriya Saran, Diana Hayden and Mugdha Godse. Salman kept a distance from the ladies and danced the night away with his buddies." Anil Kapoor was not only there with his brother Boney Kapoor, Anil broke into his '1 2 Ka 4' dance number from Ram Lakhan on the dance floor with Salman. Says the guest, "Every time a song played, the relevant star was pulled to the dance floor by Salman. Imran Khan who was there with his wife Avantika joined Salman for a jig when 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' came on." Salman and his close friend Sajid Nadiadwala were constantly in serious conversation. Shirish Kunder who will be directing Salman in Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick was there with his wife Farah Khan. Clearly, the couple's friendship with Shah Rukh Khan is over. The highlight of the night was Salman and Sonu Sood's joint efforts on the dance floor to the sound of 'Munni Badnaam'. Apparently, Salman pulled out all stops and danced as though there was no tomorrow. Says the guest, "He was very comfortable in male company, polite and aloof with the ladies. This birthday Salman was clearly in a mellow and guarded frame of mind. We suspect he'd be married by the time the next birthday is around." Salman played the perfect host. "He looked after us so wonderfully. On his earlier birthdays, he would just be there while we made ourselves comfortable at his farmhouse. But this time, he looked after every guest personally, right until Wednesday afternoon when the party ended. Salman made sure every guest stayed for the breakfast of parathas. He told all of us we couldn't leave without tasting the 'brilliant parathas' that are made on his farm. No one refused. You can't say no to Salman." Interestingly, Farhan Akhtar, fresh from his collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, was also present at Salman's birthday bash in Panvel. Salman, we hear, is seriously considering a film for Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani's banner. Sonu Sood who flew down for just 5 hours on Tuesday night from Hyderabad said it was a trip worth making. "Not everyone gets a call from Salman bhai to come to his birthday. I couldn't refuse. I flew out of Hyderabad at 9 pm on Tuesday, reached Salman's farmhouse in Panvel by 12.30, stayed for four hours and flew back to Hyderabad in the morning. I'd do the same again. But only for Salman bhai."

SRK silences detractors as Don 2 turns into a hit

Shah Rukh Khan must have gone through some real anxious times when the Thursday evening press show resulted in select mischief mongers spreading negative word of mouth about his latest release Don 2. Critics in general weren't really kind too and despite the fact that the film took the best opening ever for a non-holiday release, there were many waiting with daggers and all set to attack after the weekend went by. However as things stand today, Shah Rukh is pretty much having the last laugh with the film holding well even on the weekdays, hence ensuring that the film is a clean hit and may just turn superhit. "Don 2 has done well and now all eyes are on how far would it go", says a source, "Of course Ra.One backlash coupled with the fact that the film hasn't been designed for universal audience means that the film wouldn't end up creating or beating records set this year. However, it is now entering the Rs.100 crore club and make neat profits for all involved. For Shah Rukh this is now his second century in a row. Of course Ra.One was touted to do much better but negative word of mouth aborted its run, though not before it managed Rs.115 crore for itself. However in case of Don 2, multiplex audience across the country are liking the film which is a big plus." There are some who are of the belief that given the fact brand Shah Rukh is involved, each film of his should be setting benchmarks instead of just coming close to them and compare with the contemporaries. "Agreed, but for that a film should be designed as the one with universal appeal as well", says a prominent filmmaker on condition of anonymity, "If he plays to his strengths and ends up serenading women in chiffon sarees for a Yash Raj film, he is bound to set records. However, of late he has been experimenting too much and making a conscious call to stay away from mushy affairs, case in point being a My Name Is Khan, Ra.One or Don 2. Results are of course going to be mixed." However, his fans worldwide are now rooting for him to do get back into wholesome family entertainment mood as a result of which in months to come, he would begin films which, as per industry parlance, are considered to be 'safe'. "Yash Chopra's film that he is doing with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma cannot go wrong. Then there is Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express for which he starts shooting with Kareena Kapoor. These are the films that have an eye on multiplexes as well as single screen audience. Guess Shah Rukh is through with technology, gizmos and 3D now, it is time to get that major biggie which would shut the mouth of even the staunchest of detractors", the filmmaker adds. His fans wouldn't mind that either.

Big B has a fan in Farahs son

This is the classic tale of the teacher and the tot. Apparently, the Big B has inadvertently aided Farah Khan's little son Czar's enhanced performance in school. When Czar was under-performing in his English speech it was the Big B's famous 'Walk In English, Talk In English' speech from Namak Halaal that came to the child's rescue. Reveals the proud mother, "I taught it to him .You see, Czar's teachers told me he only spoke in Hindi and Marathi. I was advised to encourage him to speak in English. So, I taught him Amitji's Namal Halaal monologue which according to me is a most comprehensive English primer for any child. Filmy maa hoon na." On Wednesday, at the house-warming party at Farah's place, Czar got his chance to have his say in front of the man who came to his rescue in school. Czar recited his Namak Halaal monologue, much to the Big B's delight as he realized that a new generation of Bachchan fans in the tiny-tot section is gearing to keep the legend going. Now that papa Shirish Kunder is making a film called The Common Man with the Big B, his little son Czar is determined to prove that the Big B is an uncommon man. Incidentally, Farah's chum Sanjay Leel Bhansali who is not a kids' person gets on famously with Czar. Sanjay has promised to launch Czar as a hero. Mom Farah is already the leading lady in SLB's sister Bela Sehgal's film. Like mother, like son, eh?

Karan and Ive always backed the young talents

Digest this! Ekta Kapoor is holidaying in Thailand and shaking in her chair watching a movie in 4D. It's Mission Impossible. Now, out here in misty Mumbai, the Indian Film Fraternity has literally not stopped shaking since yesterday over the biggest news of 2011 that read - 'Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor are coming together in 2012 to produce a love story with a twist'. Then there's still The Dirty Picture pushing its way and inching closer to a Rs.90 crore mark. But that one question everyone's been asking since a couple of years is - What's going on? What does Balaji Motion Pictures do that's so extraordinary? So after talking to Ekta this morning, I've come to know that the extraordinary thing isn't the movies that she makes, it's the people that she collaborates with. Welcome aboard Dharma Productions and Karan Johar. Together, they've announced their first maiden venture for the big screen - an untitled movie written by Althea Kaushal, directed by debutant Akshay Roy and backed by two creative heads that are making a lot of heads spin since the last twenty four hours. Come to think of it, their biggest competition will be this question - Can they make a love story that pushes the envelope? Hell yes! Currently in the scripting stage, Ekta and Karan have always believed in giving creative ownership to their team and believe it or not, that same possession will bring about the revolution once this biggie hits the big screen. And no matter what the world says, the duo are here to shake things up big time because they share in common the belief that they don't make movies to make money, they make money to make movies. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent dials all the way to Thailand and talks to India's prized possession who is just not holidaying but thinking every second of her time - How do I get time from the busiest people in the world and entertain them? For a woman who has made a living fostering creativity talks about pushing teams beyond their comfort zone, encouraging rebellious new talents, building morale and her favourite love stories. Ekta, it's your turn now! "The Dirty Picture has surpassed beyond my expectations" I'm really hoping that The Dirty Picture reaches the three figure mark. The movie has surpassed way beyond my expectations. But let me tell you, the movie that Karan and I have announced yesterday has been in the talks before The Dirty Picture had released. We were jamming for sometime over this thing and I know the expectations have gone overboard because two very interesting companies have joined hands. "Karan has got that slice of life in his movies that are filled with love in abundance. So hopefully the combination will work" The movie is smart and will be an interestingly shot film with debutant director Akshay Roy in the hot seat. I was so charged about this movie when Karan and I discussed this. It's a very content driven film. The few things I've done in our movies are edgy, bold and innovative and Karan has got that slice of life in his movies that are filled with love in abundance. So hopefully the combination will work. "We never want our movies to buckle under the pressure of expectations. We make movies that we like" There is no success formula in Balaji Motion Pictures office. I've never believed that there is a success formula to make movies. We first make sure what we want to make and the rest is history. We never want our movies to buckle under the pressure of expectations and over the top enthusiasm. It'll never happen that one day you'll make a movie that everyone will like. If it happens, it's great. But we make movies that we like and will keep doing that all my life. "I believe romance is always edgy" I did the most edgy and innovative love story quite a few years ago on the television called Kasautii. It was a cursed love story. But yet it was an identifiable emotion and an understandable one. Love cannot be self-explanatory for everyone to understand sometimes. I believe that romance is always edgy. "My favourite love story is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and that's why I went to Karan Johar" Honestly, my favourite love story is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and that's why I went to Karan Johar to talk about this love story that we are making. In the history of love stories this is my favourite and then not far behind is Maine Pyaar Kiya along with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. KANK was a very bold and a brave attempt by Karan back then and sometimes the uncomforting works better in love stories. "Karan and I've always backed the young talents. See how many good directors he has launched" Akshay Roy is a young boy and very hardworking. Karan and I've always backed the young talents. See how many good directors he has launched. We got to give someone a chance to prove his mantle and Akshay is hell bent on proving just that through this film. "Althea Kaushal and Akshay Roy are great finds" No casting will ever start for me till the entire script is locked and ready. Althea Kaushal is writing this movie of ours. Both Althea and Akshay are great finds. It's easy to call the cast and tell them to come on board. The kind of attitude, styling and mannerisms for characters will only be visible if the movie's written in its entirety. That's when we know whom to approach for the movie. We will never know the nuances till the characters are ready and that's when our actors will be ready too.

Pitobash talks about Shirish Kunders Joker

Never under estimate the power of a Joker in a pack of cards. It can come as a saviour when you've almost given up or it can ruin it when your ego has almost touched sky high. Enter Pitobash. His life in Bollywood, if you consider has been the same as that of the Joker from the pack of cards: safe n sound. At the moment, he's making more 'shor' on his next biggie titled Joker. Pito has shown that he can master any part thrown at him - now it's up to directors to give him that role. Enter Shirish Kunder, his director, who has given Pito a 'hunchback' role in Joker - something that's oddly challenging. Now come to think of it, Pito is blessed and cursed with a chameleon-like mischief and a face that can shift from pathos to menace to madness in a split second. But that's the quality a Joker would possess too, wouldn't he? UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent takes you inside the adventure, fantasy and sci-fi world of Shirish Kunder's Joker. It's 'Pito on Joker' time! "Joker is fantasy, adventure and Sci-fi and it still has the Bollywood humour" Joker is the first 3D Alien movie. Joker is fantasy, adventure and Sci-fi and it still has the Bollywood humour. In spite of all this, Joker isn't an out and out comedy. Shirish has made sure that Joker will be one of its kind movie coming out of our industry. "I have prosthetic makeup in Joker" My look in the whole lot is very different from what I've attempted ever before, on stage or on screen. I have prosthetic make-up. I haven't done this before. I had to close my eyes and sleep while Preeti put on the prosthetics. It was like driving your car in the traffic jammed Andheri area that took you two hours to reach your house from the station. Oh! Then an hour to remove the prosthetics too! "I personally feel that the soul of the film is the concept, story and the genre" Akshay Kumar is already a big star and he keeps doing good films. Joker is tailor made for Akshay Kumar once you know the story. I personally feel that the soul of the film is the concept, story and the genre. If there is a character in the movie with two scenes also, it's still the most interesting. Joker is everybody's film. It's an ensemble cast never seen before. "My character has a hunch in Joker" My character in the movie has a 'hunch'. I am hunchbacked. But knowing Akshay Kumar, he kept playing kick boxing on my hunch (laughs). He is a funny man possessing endless energy. When you work with someone who has been working in the industry since two decades, they know exactly what they are doing. It's the experience that counts and I got impressed with the man's sincerity and authenticity with which he portrays his scenes. He will also bully his co-actors and Akshay is that energy filler. "Shirish was the only choice to explore a genre like Joker" Shirish was an editor before he became a director. He is a superb technical director. Shirish was the only choice to explore the genre like Joker. In his subconscious, Shirish knows everything from lighting to editing to special effects, etc. Joker couldn't have been what it is without Mr. Kunder. "Minissha being an actor wants to know all the technicalities being used in the movie" Minissha is very curious to know everything happening on the sets. For instance, if there is a special light being used, she will call the A.D. or an E.P. and ask them. Being an actor, she wants to know all the technical aspects being used in the movie. But all said and done, Minissha is sexy and beautiful. "I told Sonakshi - 'We go a long way', and she started laughing" Shatrughan Sinha was my senior from FTII. He came to our class and he was there in our final play during my term at the institute. I know Luv Sinha too because he had also applied in the selection process in FTII. So when I met Sonakshi for the first time I recalled my FTII days and she couldn't believe it. I told her, "We go a long way" and she started laughing. She is a great dancer and a very talented actress. "Vindoo is Punjab's pride and Joker's too" Vindoo Dara Singh is 'Punjab ki shaan'. He is the pride of Joker too (laughs). He is a complete contrast from what you think he is in his physicality. Many think he is rough and tough, he has a great physique, he is tall and brooding but Vindoo has a very sweet and fun loving persona. His costume is so hilarious in the movie you're going to die laughing. "You'll get Shirish's jokes five minutes after he has delivered" Shirish's sense of humour is amazing. You'll only come to know the joke after five minutes of him telling you. There was a scene where I was meant to be out of focus and the camera is on Shreyas Talpade. Shirish said 'Cut' and told Shreyas that I was stealing the limelight and Shreyas was uncomfortable only to later find out that he was pulling Shreyas' leg.

Bipasha and Sonam set to increase the heat with Players

Promos of Players are on and while for many out there it would be quest for gold that would be a major reason to catch the film, for the rest a good dekko at Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor would be a reason to feel content as well. Not just are the two looking smoking hot, they are also carrying forward the tradition followed by Abbas-Mustan when it comes to presenting their leading ladies. "Yes, we are quite particular when it comes to giving audience something which is visually appealing. It could be the way film's narrative moves ahead or the leading ladies, they have to look special", says Abbas Burmawala (of Abbas-Mustan duo), "Whether it was Bipasha Basu (Race), Priyanka Chopra (Aitraaz) or Kareena Kapoor (36 China Town) - each of them had to be special. Same holds good for Sonam as well in Players. She has looked like never before." For the makers, the first challenge was to go ahead with an absolute image transformation for Sonam. "See, it's a fact that Sonam has never done a full on glamorous role before", he continues, "She started with Saawariya and then went on to do films like Delhi 6 and Mausam. In none of them she got a chance to get into a glamorous zone. Even in I Hate Luv Storys and Aisha, she wasn't being one of those quintessential Bollywood leading ladies who are presented stylishly on screen. We wanted to change that. Of course it was a challenge for her too but looking at the results, I am sure audience too would acknowledge that we managed to create something special for Players." Well, one can indeed see that, what with Sonam being presented in a hot and stylish glamorous avtar, something that has been an unexplored territory for her so far. This wasn't the case though for Bipasha for whom it was pretty much a walk in the park to exude oomph all over again. "Yes, Bipasha came in since we wanted to project the right age difference between two leading ladies", acknowledges the director, "So while Sonam plays someone who looks like a 20-22 year old girl, for the other character of a mature-n-sexy 28-30 year old woman, it was Bipasha who was our first choice. Since we have worked with her earlier, it was but natural that she fits the bill." We agree to that as well!

Harry Potter Dominates 2011 Box Office

'Deathly Hallows, Part 2' was among several sequels to make it in the top 10.By Kevin P. Sullivan Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" Photo: Warner Bros. Harry Potter said goodbye to Hogwarts and movie theaters in 2011, but not without earning boatloads of cash along the way. The boy who lived dominated the box office this past year with more than $1.3 billion worldwide, making him the undoubted winner in a less-than-stellar year financially for movies, but "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" wasn't the only sequel to succeed. Eight of the top 10 earners at the theaters belonged to sequels, prequels or remakes. This trend is what Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, sees as the big box office story of 2011, for good and bad. "You can't deny sequels' potency at the box office, with seven of the top 10 grossing films of 2011 being continuing sagas (eight if you count 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes',"Bock said. But not every movie with a number slapped onto the back of it fared as well as Harry Potter. Bock pointed out that holiday sequels like "Happy Feet Two," "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" and "Alvin and the Chipmunk: Chipwrecked," all underperformed compared to their predecessors. "You could also argue that sequels are part of the problem, too," Bock said. "The domestic box office looks like it's going to come up short in terms of overall grosses and drop three percent versus last year, with attendance down nearly five percent — which will hit its lowest point in 15 years. That's a no-win for the entire industry." As for surprise successes and failure, two films stuck out to Bock, the comedy hit "Bridesmaids" and DC's disappointer "Green Lantern." "Bridesmaids" made $288 million worldwide on a budget of just $32 million, Bock said. "It was finally a coming out party for women of comedy," Bock said of what he called the "female 'Hangover.' " "Universal has already made plans for a sequel, and the brides-to-be are now flirting with A-list status." Ryan Reynolds' most recent foray into the superhero realm did just the opposite. "This was supposed to be the next Batman for the studio, and it nearly turned into 'Howard the Duck,' " Bock said. "Well, it wasn't that bad, but when you spend $200 million on a film, you obviously expect to make more than $219 million worldwide. And that's not including all the marketing and print advertising that went into the big-budget blockbuster." For 2012, Bock expects even more sequel domination, especially with the lineup of franchise films coming out next year. He predicts "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" will top with box office in the #1 and #2 slots, respectively, with "The Hobbit," "The Avengers" and "Men in Black 3" rounding out the top five. Luke Kennys next titled Zombie

It seems like Bollywood is rising up to the feature of the 'undead' with zombie films like Rock The Shaadi and Go Goa Gone being made. While the aforementioned films star Abhay Deol and Kunal Khemu in lead respectively, Rock On sensation Luke Kenny is busy contemplating his next. Luke will soon be seen as a living dead action star in the film which is titled Zombie. The film is apparently being produced by Luke himself. Unlike the multitude of Hollywood zombie apocalypse films, Luke's film will be different as it speaks about the origins and making of a zombie. Besides it features the journey of a human being as he is faced with a seemingly insurmountable predicament of becoming a zombie. As for the team working on the film, buzz is that Luke will be roping in the technical team of Rock On for the project.

Check Out Nikhil and Richas hot act in Tamanchey

Nikhil Dwivedi who received positive reviews for his performance in films like Raavan and Shor In The City is rumoured to play a role close on the lines of real life romance of Abu Salem and Monica Bedi in Tamanchey. Says a source from the film, "Tamanchey is an aggressive, passionate acidic love story between two criminals whilst on the run from the law. Nikhil's character is called Munna. Based on the lives of gangsters, Tamanchey will be a realistic take on the lives of the people in the underworld, using a lot of facts merged with fiction with references to real gangster incidents. Nikhil Dwivedi and Delhi based Richa Chadda apparently even shot a very steamy scene which is slated to be one of the boldest acts in Bollywood, whilst shooting for their schedule in Gujarat that will replicate Azamgarh Abu Salem's birthplace." Sources also confirm that a lot of research has gone in the script and during the pre-production of the film to re-create, authentic scenarios and exact sets. The source continues that Anurag Kashyap loved the script and supported producer Suryaveer to the hilt by helping them with the team and also with the casting of not only the leading man and Richa Chadda, but every single cast member.

Players is first Indian movie to be shot at North Pole - Abba

They've pioneered the saying - 'Chills Thrills & Frills' in Bollywood. Ever since Khiladi and Baazigar, it seems, the men have a liking for dark tales with wicked ends. With Players, they are about to play what they're best at - a game of twists and turns. I met Abbas- Mustan at the Marriott in Juhu where they were seated, just like their movies, on the edge of their seats sipping tea and coffee. They seem to be so relaxed that not for once your brain would think and ask - 'Are these the same men who guide us through their world of car chases, bike skids, femme fatales and those suspicious characters?' Yes they are! Because they can still make the simple act of watching a film seem oh-so-exciting. Cinema needs the occasional breath of fresh air, and you can always rely on Abbas - Mustan to provide it. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent takes you on a tour into the mindset of India's finest thriller filmmakers in a special two part series titled 'Dial B for Burmawallas'. "Players is the first Indian movie to be shot in the North Pole" If our Players promo can create such hype, then wait till you watch the movie. It will blow your mind. The level of film making that we've achieved by doing Players, I can confidently tell you that it's our best work till date. We only wanted people to be prepared for what's going to come next. We are going to come up with more promos in the last one week leading to the release date. We've shot Players in the North Pole and this is the first ever Bollywood movie to be shot there. We don't think that even enough Hollywood films are shot there. "Abhishek insisted on not having any body doubles for his action sequences" Whether it was Baazigar or any of our early movies, we've never made a conscious decision to work with big stars. But since many years, we always had this hunger to work with Abhishek Bachchan and do a proper action movie with him post Dhoom. We loved his intensity ever since Refugee. Abhishek insisted on doing his own stunts. There is no body double for him and he said, "Double is also a human being. I will do it myself". The train sequence in the movie is a scary one and he has pulled it off with style and ease. Players hopefully will be termed as Abhishek's best action movie so far. "Rhea brought in more to Sonam's look than what we could've ever imagined" Sonam hasn't done an out and out sexy, glamorous, stylish, action movie so far. That's the reason we selected Sonam because she embodies all the above in Players. Rhea Kapoor, her sister has designed her outfits for the film. Sonam insisted us to meet Rhea to see whether she could bring something unique to Players. Today we can proudly say that she has brought in much more than just unique to Sonam's look and to our film. It wasn't the sister act of being biased but it was more of a professional costume designer and an actress interacting that we saw. We wanted the audience to go head over heels when they see Sonam in her sexiest attire ever in a Bollywood film and together we've made that happen. Apart from her look, Sonam's role is very good. "We didn't get to meet Mark Wahlberg but we were lucky to meet Tom Cruise" If the original cast and crew of The Italian Job see Players, they'll get a shock too on the way we've treated and twisted the thriller. We've changed a lot of the original characters and the story to some extent and the scenes of course. If we had released the movie in the first week of December 2011, Mark Wahlberg and the producers had agreed to pay India a visit to be with the Players team. But I guess we were lucky because Tom Cruise's arrival came handy. We met him at the premiere of Mission Impossible -Ghost Protocol along with Sonam, Neil and Abhishek. "The only movie of Neil that impressed us the most was Johnny Gaddaar and we've retained his vulnerability back" We loved Neil Nitin Mukesh in Johnny Gaddaar. After that whatever film he's done, we weren't impressed with. But at the same time we couldn't get his vulnerability out from Johnny Gaddaar. He was unforgettable in it. In Players, we've got back his helplessness back in the form of a computer geek. "We would've loved to have three white Mini Coopers in Players" When we went to New Zealand and saw the Mini Coopers, and we instantly loved the red, blue and yellow colours. To be honest, the only thing that we've retained from The Italian Job is the gold and those Mini Coopers but unfortunately we couldn't find the 'white' coloured one. We would've loved to have three white Mini Coopers in Players. Part 2 of 'Dial B for Burmawallas' continues... Video: Abbas - Mustan Speak About 'Players'

Shaurya Chauhan in Krrish 3

Model-turned-actor Shaurya Chauhan has been roped in by filmmaker Rakesh Roshan to play a negative character in Krrish 3. The film went on the floors in October and Chauhan has already shot a couple of scenes with the cast. "When the Roshans were casting for the film, they were on the lookout for someone with an adventurous streak. Fashion photographer Sabu Cyril, who is a good friend, recommended my name for the role as he felt that I would fit in perfectly," says Chauhan, who has been part of TV reality show Dadagiri. "I had to go through an extensive look-test before I bagged the role. The first time Rakesh Roshan and I met, it was at an airport. I was then called for a look-test and a make-up artiste from London was called in to style me. During that period, my look in the film and the costumes I will be seen wearing on-screen were finalised." The actor has been asked to lose weight for the film and is also undergoing an extensive two-month training in gymnastics. "It's an action film and I will have to do stunts. So, I need to be physically fit. I will be undergoing a two-month training in gymnastics so that my body will be agile." Discussing her daily routine, Chauhan adds, "I start my day with a workout session that lasts for an-hour-and-a-half. There's another an-hour-and-a-half session in the evening too before I wrap up. As for the rest of the day, it's spend on the sets." Chauhan's debut film Saada Adda is set for release. Screen India

Salman Khan features in music video for CCL

"Dil se ayee hai awaaz ke phaad denge hum...Let's rock together...Phaad denge hum/Let's party together...Just you and me ..." These are the words that Salman Khan has mouthed for a music video supporting the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) in Hyderabad. And he can't stop using them in front of all his friends. The star is so enthused by the words that he wants to use them beyond the cricket field, as a kind of signature tune for what he represents in his own mind and in the mind of his fans. Says a source, "The song composed by Gourav Dasgupta got Salman so revved up that he not only agreed to be part of the music video (something that he seldom does), he also wanted to extend the song to his other activities because he felt the creative aggression of the lyrics epitomizes what Salman stands for." Filmmaker Mani Shankar who has directed the music video says, "It's a kickass track and has relevance far beyond the cricket field. Salman loved it and immediately took to it. Yes, he has plans for the song." The inauguration of the CCL in Hyderabad on Monday was attended by a 120 stars. It had the three superstars of Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema Salman, Suriya and Venkatesh on one platform. Apparently, Salman stole the thunder from them all bringing the house down without trying to make an impression. Speaking on the music video, Mani Shankar says, "The music video celebrates the theme of CCL, which is basically a 'cricket party', lots more fun and glamour than IPL, and a great event to attend and remember. The music video is pure commercial muscle, sexy as hell, but also stylish and power-packed. It has tons of adrenaline and glamour. Salman was damn impressed by the 'Phaad denge hum' message of the video." Apparently, he has asked Sajid Nadiadwala who accompanied Salman to Hyderabad on Monday for the CCL event, to incorporate the term 'Phaad denge hum' in his next film Kick.
