Ranveer is happy as LVRB helps him shed Bittoo Sharma image

Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl has done decent business at the box office and Ranveer Singh is a happy man. Even though the film hasn't found the kind of immense appreciation that Band Baaja Baaraat had managed, Ranveer feels that the movie has at least helped him in shrugging away the 'Bittoo Sharma' image that he had gained during the year gone by. "From an uncouth youngster who was munching away 'Bread Pakodas' in Delhi University, he has indeed covered a good distance", says a trade observer, "That was the biggest challenge for him since time and again actors get trapped in their own image when their first film is a hit and loved by the audience. Even Ranveer was tempted to repeat the 'Bittoo Sharma' act but he wanted to be 'Ricky Bahl'." Still, some do feel that his characterisation in the film was a little patchy, considering the fact that even though he was duping women with his charm, there was no Casanova element in him. Now that seemed liked a cinematic liberty so that he could be eventually united with his heroine Anushka Sharma in the end instead of coming across as a womaniser. "He was a con in the film and all cons - even though they may be handsome with great bodies - can't be expected to take all women they meet to bed. Ranveer was playing someone whose morals were intact when it came to his interaction with women. It is strange that sometimes critics turn script writers. If Ranveer played a guy differently when compared to others who have been on-screen Casanova before, what's wrong with that? He made his money but never intended to break a girl's heart. He was supposed to be a smart and loveable guy at the end of the day", defends a friend of Ranveer. Nevertheless, Ranveer is undeterred by such comments coming his way, more so since he is pretty much used to them as well. "See, the idea was to get out of the Band Baaja Baaraat image and thankfully I have managed to do that with Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl. That was most important for me since the transition from being a 'jhalla' to a suave and polished guy was quite a tough journey. Now that audience has seemingly liked me in this avtar and there has been good feedback from within the industry as well, I am all the more confident about my next film Lootera. I promise to be different there as well."
